A Good Day

May 27, 2008

Any day where I get to tell almost 200 people “Nice buns baby!” and not get smacked is a good day!

*runs before she gets caught using her posting privilege frivolously*

A quick reminder when voting for who you want featured, this is a community feature *not* a competition. There ain’t prizes for “winning”, and there’s no specific reason why a blog should be nominated. Great pics or spectacular flops, this is all about getting to know each other and having fun. It ain’t serious, and it won’t be allowed to turn into any kind of cut throat crap. Get out there and read some blogs y’all don’t read all the time as your usual favourites, and tell me about your discoveries!

The name is a little misleading this time, since y’all only chose one pie out of the 3 winners! What, everybody prefers to drink their desserts? Don’t answer that.

Dianne gave us a p-i-e. Now if she would just come teach me how to get the sides that perfect. Look at how smooth and silky her layers are, and what a gorgeous colour on the meringue! Then she went and combined it with ice cream.

Dianne’s Dishes

Florida Pie

Coconut Creamsicle Ice Cream with Dark Chocolate Covered Goji Berries to get very specific with it. To be honest, I have no idea what goji berries are. They’re covered in chocolate, which makes them most likely something I would eat. Then again, I’ve eaten insects because somebody put chocolate on them.

Occasional Baker

Julius wasn’t about to be confined by a pie dish, showing us his preference for the cutsey parfait. Ain’t it adorable?

Don’t miss his blog, in addition to the recipe he gives a nice little folk history lesson on the origins of Key Lime Pie. The way he’s put it together reminds me of the kind of thing you’d dunk a Nilla wafer into as a kid.

A Cookie A Day

Brianna was on the same wave length when it came to doing her pie. She did a parfait too, an elegant presentation that ends up looking like the grown up version of the one above.

She skipped the meringue, and I can’t help but give a little cheer. Whipped cream is so perfect with the lime flavours, and it made this so fluffy and light looking. The zest on top really adds the right sophistication to her dessert.

Hello fellow TWDers!

As you all have read from our fearless leader recently, TWD is continually adding new bakers and has said goodbye to some that have recently departed so Shari and I have been hard at work to update the blogroll with all the new changes.

The easiest way to update TWD blogroll in bloglines or google reader is to delete your current TWD-all folder off your reader and re-import the whole list. Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Happy Memorial Day! Can’t wait to see everyone’s sticky buns! :)

BLOGLINES:
To delete TWD folder—
1. Click Edit
2. Select the TWD-all folder
3. Click Trash.

To import TWD blogroll—
4. Click *HERE* for updated TWD blogroll export link
5. In Bloglines, click Export Subscriptions. (It’s below the long list of TWD members.)
6. Save the attached file somewhere on your desktop.
7. Log into your bloglines acct
8. Edit
9. Import subscriptions

Note from Shari: I would recommend people read any blogs they want to before deleting so that they are up-to-date. Bloglines won’t remember what you’ve read after you delete and import the subscriptions again. It thinks they’re all new.

GOOGLE READER:
To delete TWD folder—
1. Click manage subscriptions (bottom of reader list)
2. Type in TWD in the filter box (top right corner) – this will bring up all blogs that are labeled with TWD
3. Select all subscriptions
4. Unsubscribe

To import TWD blogroll—
5. Click *HERE* for updated TWD blogroll export link
6. Click export subscriptions and save to desktop
7. Click Manage subscriptions in google reader
8. Click import/export
9. Import file from desktop

Notes from Clara: I would recommend if you have any unread TWD blogs from your previously set up TWD blogroll, read them before you delete and re-import b/c google reader won’t update as new until those blogs update again with another entry.

Alternate Recipe

May 22, 2008

If you are without a stand mixer and would rather not tough it out with the brioche by hand, you are able to bake up a past recipe from the archives. :) There are lots of goodies to choose from.

However, I know several people did tough it out with the brioche previously, so if you can give tips on this method, please do do! Thanks in advance!
