  1. Do not miss this one! The dates become chewy little pockets of sweetness and the bread itself is terrific, too-crunchy on the outside and light inside. I immediately went out and bought more dates so I can make it again.

  2. This loaf is quite good as a cake with ice cream, but it makes absolutely amazing toast a few days later. Like Leslie, I’ll be making this one again very soon. I replaced about a quarter of the flour with freshly ground whole wheat flour which gave it an extra-nutty quality.

    • The fun thing about dates is they don’t really have ‘dried fruit’ traits. They cook up almost like a chocolate chip. I will never cook with raisins–I don’t like them, but dates are a whole different game. I have substituted dates for raisins in all of Dories recipes with excellent success.
