Went with the wreath. Will be making again in a couple of weeks and will do a standard loaf. The aroma was amazing! Love cardamom…
Loved this recipe. The house smelled amazing while it was baking.
I also made the wreath. Would really like to make this again for Christmas, but not sure I’ll be able to fit it in.
I made the wreath this time around, but my favorite shape is a 6-stranded braid. Plus, that shape is easier to fit in our vertical freezer!
OT: Can someone explain to me how a pingback works? I see this occasionally in the comments.
When someone links to the post on their blog, it creates a pingback. I’m not sure if it happens for everyone, but I know my blog (on wordpress) always generates one when I link to a post here.
LOVED this. It was so flexible. I had it rise in the fridge a bit while I had to go run an errand. It still came out perfectly. Winner!
Mine are beautiful and baking now – I made small braided loaves to give as gifts. Hope they taste as good as they smell and look!
Mine were overproofed, so it turned out a little flat. I want to try it again. Sometime. When the oven is less crowded. Also, I added a bit of orange zest, which was good.
Orange zest would be yummy with the cardamom!
Hi All, how are you serving your pulla?
I ask because I thought it was delicious and I’ve love to make it again to share. But I’m a bit confused as to how it would fit into a meal. It would be overlooked on a dessert table (bread over cookies? yeah right), and it too sweet for a main meal. Breakfast?
Thanks!
The day I made it, just had it plain. But the following days, we had it for breakfast, toasted with a little jam or marmalade. It was wonderful for breakfast, as it wasn’t overly sweet.
I found it made pretty good french toast.
I love this bread, have made it twice already, ate some, gifted some. Next Christmas I am making the wreath for sure! Thank you to everyone that left a comment on my blog and entered my cookbook giveaway. It ends at midnight tonight, so you still have time to leave a comment and enter! http://praycookblog.com/2012/12/17/twd-finnish-pulla-braid-a-cookbook-giveaway/
After falling in love with cardamom while making this bread, I decided to see what else it would go with. I crushed 3 pods and put it into my coffee grinds before brewing. OMG! The coffee tastes so good with a hint of cardamom!!!
Just had to share that. :) Happy holidays.
Agh, I got mixed up and thought it was due this Tuesday! So sad I missed out :(
I am so behind on making this but my family had zillions of other recipes for Christmas, but the great news: I’ll be making this with a new Kitchen Aid stand mixer this weekend! Should make the kneading much easier :)
You will love using your new KA mixer for baking & kneading tasks. They are so strong & do such good work for us! Enjoy!
This was a fabulous bread recipe. Look forward to making it many times over.
Kudos to baker Beatrice Ojakangas!
