Avatars

June 6, 2008

So, you joined Tuesdays with Dorie and now you want to put our cute little banner/avatar up on your blog but you have no idea how to do it. Well, you came to the right place because we have directions for wordpress and blogger. I don’t know how to do it with any other blog hosts so you’re on your own )

We’ll start with the instructions then get to the images and the code that goes with them (code for each image is under the image).

WordPress Instructions

Choose the code under the image you want to put in your blog.

Go to your dashboard and click on design

Select Widgets

Add a Text Widget

Paste the code in the text Widget and move your text widget to the order you want it to appear on your sidebar

Save and you’re done

Blogger Instructions

Blogger can be a little trickier because sometimes it likes to add extra quotes. If it adds extra quotes, just monkey around with the quotes around the end of the url until you can convince blogger that you’re doing the right thing.

Go to the layout section

Click add a page element on the top of the right column

Then find the element called “HTML/Javascript” and add it to your blog

Put the code in, save and you’re done

I am having no luck with inserting the avatar. The top one leaves a message saying the photo bucket image has been moved. The bottom 2 just give me the text of the code.
    Technology doesn’t love me today.

This is the widget text I’ve been using with WordPress. If you copy and paste it into your widget, I would think it would work for you!

    damn… didn’t post the code…

I can’t even find the layout section as stated in step 1. Where is that?

I’m using blogger – just started yesterday. I found that clicking on the avatar picture and saving it to my computer and then using “add a photo” and placing the link to the TWD website worked great.

Does anyone know how to do this for typepad???

I copied the link for blogger, but had to delete the quotes and retype. Then it worked.

  9. Mary Says:

Does anyone know how to do this for blogspot?

  10. Joanna Says:

I tried retyping the quotes for wordpress, and it worked like a charm! Thanks, Michaela!

  11. CB Says:

@Mary – I think blogspot is just another name for blogger so you should be able to follow the instructions above. HTH.

  12. Tania Says:

OK – can’t get it to work. Pasted it into blogger and it seemed to paste properly but can’t seem to make it work. Frustrating!
Will fiddle with it later. :(

  13. Jennifer Says:

I pasted it, saved it, it didn’t show up, so I went to edit, and there were extra quotation marks (I think that’s must be what they meant above). After I removed the extra quotation marks (which of course were NOT there when I pasted it the first time) and saved, then everything turned out okay.

    But I agree, very frustrating!

  14. Any chance anyone has gotten this to work thru wordpress? I tried all three avatars with zero luck!
