Ok, folks, a while back we had a discussion about having vs. not having hosts. I explained that I was a little worried because there seemed to be fewer people who were stepping up who hadn’t hosted in the past. I’ve only had one person volunteer for the month of March. So I’ll put this out there again — do we need the hosts this go round? Most, if not all, of these recipes are available on the web already. It’s very easy to link to the PBS site. Which way does public opinion sway?
Posing a question….
We’ve asked people to step up each month and become a “host” for a given recipe. The host (often) provides a photo for the LYL post and puts up the recipe on his/her site. Since we’ve asked that you not post the recipe and that we direct people to purchase the book if they’d like to try it themselves, a host seemed like a good idea.
Fewer and fewer people are signing up to host recipes each month.
My question — do we need a host? Many of these recipes are already floating around the web, and you can see video of Julia baking them with her chef friends.

Looking Forward
As we wind down on Baking, I am starting to look forward to the new book. We will be tackling Baking with Julia next. I hope you are all as excited as I am to begin a new book!
In starting a new book, I wanted to get feedback from you all about what you’d like the new club to look like. Would you like a new format? Would you like it to be similar to how FFWD is running? Would any of you like to be more involved?

Fall Cleaning
I have not touched the blogroll or rotation since February. Its time people. I am giving one months notice. If you want to stay involved in the group and have not been keeping up, take this 30 days and jump back in. All blogs that have not participated in 90 days will be removed. This really isn’t a big deal as everyone who wants to be involved already posts twice a month, right?
Riddle me this…
This is the scenario I have been in the past 3 months….
Its time to email members for the upcoming month of recipes. I go to the Recipe Rotation.. I check out the names… I click on their blogs… and I only see 1, 2 or 3 TWD entries from now back through November or October… What do I do?!?!?
We used to have very strict participation rules. You had to participate twice a month to continue being a member. No ifs ands or buts… (Well, I would take hiatuses for those getting married, having babies, going on vacay, etc..) The rules have fallen by the wayside, mostly because I do not want to be a hypocrite. My life has been insane the past year. In trying to get Colby’s epilepsy under control, I sometimes barely remember TWD. Sad, but true. (Not entirely true, I bake 3/4 of the months recipes, but then dont post about it. Which is the worst, because I am actually baking along, but then dont put up proof!) I am doing my best to remember the P&Q etc.. to keep things going for you guys. Its becoming a staple that the upcoming hosts of the week are barely playing along.. Last month, I had to remove 10 members before I found someone who was playing along at all. So, tell me this…. should the members who have only participated once or twice in 3-4 months have the opportunity to host for a week?!? I want to know what you think here.

Semi-Annual Maintenance
I am cleaning up around here, adding members, removing members, general maintenance. (Don’t worry, no one who has participated in the past 6 months will be removed. If you haven’t participated in that long, you aren’t really a member, are you?!?)
Does anyone have changes I may have missed, members who may have fallen through the cracks, or blogs that have changed their names?

Thinking about our 2nd Anniversary…
I’ve been thinking ahead to Tuesdays with Dorie’s 2nd Anniversary, which will be on January 1, 2010. Last year, Dorie herself was kind enough to pick a recipe and play host in honor of our 1st anniversary. This year, I’d like for us all to celebrate. So, with that in mind, for the week of January 5, 2010 we will all vote on a recipe to make. I would like it to be something for a special occasion. Ladies and gentlemen, take out your books and pick a recipe that you’d like to bake in honor of TWD’s 2nd Anniversary. Leave a comment on this post. We will narrow them down at the beginning of December and then vote again.
Lastly, I am not sure I say it enough, thank you for baking along with me every week. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would still be doing this 2 years, let alone, that hundreds of people would be doing it with me. I know I do not comment on your blogs as much as I should either, but, I enjoy each and every one. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
