I made these and I couldn’t taste the spice all that much. The chocolate/almond combination is nice, but not fancy.
I’m with you, Nicole… I was a little underwhelmed by the “spice” in these. However, they make a great little after-lunch snack at work. :)
I just made these and did not chill the dough.I just mixed and dropped on to a cookie sheet. They turned out great!
Good to know, Michelle!
i think i’ll try doubling the spice after reading these first couple comments…
Mine had a wonderful brownie-like quality (although that may have been caused by the humidity). I used the zest of an unloved orange instead of allspice, they were spectacular!
i subbed hazelnuts for the almonds and added cinnamon to the batter. I also didn’t read the directions carefully enough and added ingredients totally out of order. my logs are chilling and i’ll let everyone know how it turns out :)
I used whole unblanched almonds and 1/4 tsp of allspice after reading the above comments. The dough is chilling now. I had to move quickly as it is warm here. I will be posting on Tuesday. Somehow when I LYL it does not go through. Perhaps someone could take a look at it. I usually email Laurie and she finds it in spam. Oh well, not a big deal. Have a great holiday!
I agree about them being underspiced. They were very good but not spicy/
I used cloves and couldn’t taste them. The cookies were lovely and tender.
Because I love spices, I used a 1/4 tsp cloves and 1/4 tsp allspice. That worked. There is a nice spicy background flavor to the cookies.

Could not taste the spice at all.
