I spent 4 hours a couple weeks ago cleaning out the blogroll. The bloggers who joined in the past 30 days have been added. The blogroll on the main page, as well as the Bakers page, are now up to date.  I am working on getting the information to update bloglines.

If you should be on the blogroll and are not, please check your email. There were a few blogs I didnt have the URLs for. Also, if there are any changes I missed, please leave a comment and I will fix it.

The next ‘clean house’ will be in April. I am going to do my very best to check every blog every 2 months.

Lastly, I have gotten a ton of negative feedback for the way I have run this group. If there is one thing I can do, its call myself out. I have been a very passive leader. Frankly, I just haven’t had the time to dedicate to the maintaining of this site and its members the past year. I have flown by the seat of my pants with this group because I never intended to run a group. It was not a well thought out process, it is something that fell in my lap. And its wonderful, do not think for a second I am complaining. I am not. However, I apologize. I apologize to those who felt singled out, wronged and rejected. I apologize to those who think I should be removed from the blog myself for lack of participation. You are right. I should be. But, I am the founder of the group, and for every hour I spend maintaining, I could be baking and updating my own blog. I let things slide so long because I was struggling to keep up and did not want to be a hypocrite. With all that said, I am going to do my best here on out to keep things tidy and fair. So, please stop with the hateful emails. I am waving my white flag.

Thanks! Bake on!

The verdict is in…

In an overwhelming outpouring of opinion, it is clear you the people of TWD think that the ‘host of the week’ needs to be an active participant. They have to follow the rules to have the honor of hosting. So, moving forward, anyone who has not done their share, 2 weeks per month, will not be able to host. Now, now, before you twist your face all up, if you need time off, which we all do from time to time because of life, EMAIL me. Its that simple. If you are unable to keep up because you are moving, you had a baby, are getting married, are very ill or your dog died, EMAIL ME! tuesdayswith dorie AT gmail DOT com.

Okay, with that settled, Ive made another semi-big decision. Tuesdays with Dorie is now a closed group. We will no longer be accepting new members while baking through Baking From My Home to Yours. In all honesty, the group has gotten too big for me. The members who have been here since the beginning and know the story, know this group happened on accident. It was not some plan I hatched in the dark of night. While it has been a wonderful thing, and it is a wonderful thing, I dont know a lot of the members and that bothers me. Is it my fault? Most certainly. I simply do not have the time to scroll over 300+ blogs a week. I can barely visit my friends blogs and rarely comment on their awesome posts. We will open the group up again when/if we start another book with TWD. And I know we will. :)

Lastly, thank you for always giving me your honest opinions. I am doing my best to do what the masses want with the group.  I think we are on the right track. More thanks for your support of me. It has been a rough 9 months in the Woodward household, but I think we too are on the right track. xo

Now go ahead, comments, questions, complaints… start now..

Riddle me this…

This is the scenario I have been in the past 3 months….

Its time to email members for the upcoming month of recipes. I go to the Recipe Rotation.. I check out the names… I click on their blogs… and I only see 1, 2 or 3 TWD entries from now back through November or October… What do I do?!?!?

We used to have very strict participation rules. You had to participate twice a month to continue being a member. No ifs ands or buts… (Well, I would take hiatuses for those getting married, having babies, going on vacay, etc..) The rules have fallen by the wayside, mostly because I do not want to be a hypocrite. My life has been insane the past year. In trying to get Colby’s epilepsy under control, I sometimes barely remember TWD. Sad, but true. (Not entirely true, I bake 3/4 of the months recipes, but then dont post about it. Which is the worst, because I am actually baking along, but then dont put up proof!) I am doing my best to remember the P&Q etc.. to keep things going for you guys.  Its becoming a staple that the upcoming hosts of the week are barely playing along.. Last month, I had to remove 10 members before I found someone who was playing along at all. So, tell me this…. should the members who have only participated once or twice in 3-4 months have the opportunity to host for a week?!?  I want to know what you think here.

Thanks! Bake on!

Semi-Annual Maintenance

I am cleaning up around here, adding members, removing members, general maintenance. (Don’t worry, no one who has participated in the past 6 months will be removed. If you haven’t participated in that long, you aren’t really a member, are you?!?)

Does anyone have changes I may have missed, members who may have fallen through the cracks, or blogs that have changed their names?

Speak now or forever hold your peace. :P

Happy New Year!

Well, well, well… 2 years ago today, I posted this on my blog….

“2008 January 1
by L W

After receiving Baking: From My Home to Yours by Dorie Greenspan for Christmas, I thought I would try and make a recipe a week till Im through the book. Yes, I know, there are over 300 recipes. It will take me 5 years or more. ha! Nothing like setting a goal for myself, right? (I am horrible at follow through. AWFUL! Who knows how long this will last. Anyone wanna join me, keep me going in this task?? Id welcome a buddy!)

So, for this edition of “Tuesdays with Dorie”, I made Brown Sugar-Pecan Shortbread Cookies. They tasted fantastic. Very buttery, the pecans added a very pecan sandy taste. But they looked so poor. I mean bad, bad, bad looking cookies. NOTHING like the perfect cute little picture in the book. I didnt even bother to take a picture because they just were not at all photogenic cookies. (I dont think you would be able to tell they WERE cookies!) I think I will give them another try, maybe it was the temperature. Maybe they cooled off too much while I was cutting them. They spread WAY out. Did not stay in the cute squares they were supposed to.

I have my eye on many, many recipes from this book. Its more like a bible of baking. Im excited to try something else, and hopefully it will go a little better. Till next week… :)”

I had no idea how that bright idea would take off in such a big, big way. The past 2 years have been an absolute delight. I have loved reading all of your blogs and getting to know many of you in a personal way. I would also like to apologize for often dropping the ball in adding new members and being slow on the email replies. This hobby sometimes feels like a full time job! I vow to do better this year with communication and blog upkeep.

As we head into another year of Tuesdays with Dorie, I hope you will all stick with me. We have many recipes to go. I look forward to each and every one of them and reading about every success and failure.

Special thanks to Dorie herself. She has been ever so supportive of this ‘fan club’. I appreciate each and every comment she makes on here and on our personal blogs. She has kindly replied to every single email I have ever set to her, and quickly!  Dorie is quick on the email. ;) Thank you, thank you, thank you. BFMHTY has impacted my life in such an extreme way. I wouldn’t be the baker I am now without it.

Wishing you all a very happy and healthy New Year!

Much love. Bake on!

Thinking about our 2nd Anniversary…

I’ve been thinking ahead to Tuesdays with Dorie’s 2nd Anniversary, which will be on January 1, 2010. Last year, Dorie herself was kind enough to pick a recipe and play host in honor of our 1st anniversary. This year, I’d like for us all to celebrate. So, with that in mind, for the week of January 5, 2010 we will all vote on a recipe to make. I would like it to be something for a special occasion. Ladies and gentlemen, take out your books and pick a recipe that you’d like to bake in honor of TWD’s 2nd Anniversary. Leave a comment on this post. We will narrow them down at the beginning of December and then vote again.

Lastly, I am not sure I say it enough, thank you for baking along with me every week. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would still be doing this 2 years, let alone, that hundreds of people would be doing it with me. I know I do not comment on your blogs as much as I should either, but, I enjoy each and every one. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Much love,

Changing things up…

Since Novemeber is special because of Thanksgiving, I already decided to allow recipes to be posted any Tuesday of the month. There are several recipes for November that would be perfect for Thanksgiving dinner. Since you can swap recipes/weeks this month, I am going to post all of the P&Q posts now. That way, if you make the Chocolate Caramel Chestnut Cake for Nov 3, the P&Q is there like it always is. However, if you are making the Cran-Apple Crisps, the P&Q is there as well.

Hope this helps! Bake On!

New Members

I am getting an average of 20 new members a day currently and having trouble finding the time to add them. If you have emailed me about joining TWD, rest assured you are in the group. End of the year school activities and summer sports are keeping me hopping right now. I will do my best to add all of the new members this coming weekend. Please have patience with me. My apologies, my full time job, being a Mom, is taking all of my free time right now!

Bake on! xo

To those who have gone missing…

Hey folks, I have gotten a lot of emails in the past few weeks about blogs missing off the blogroll. If you are someone who has been active, and are missing from the list, please comment here.  I am going to be repairing the list and the recipe rotation. Please be patient with me as I try to patch things back together.

Thanks bakers,
